I was at the Royal College of Music yesterday afternoon when the heavens opened and the drains in the basement passages created liitle fountains. There were several small floods in the basement and Britten Theatre. The steps outside the Albert Hall became a spectacular waterfall for about ten minutes.

That just goes to show how weather can vary wildly within short distances, Chris. 6 miles away here in Dulwich there was hardly more than light drizzle during the afternoon, though I did get caught in a shower, nothing to get fussed about, cycling to New Cross, at about 8 pm.

Cold 'n' drizzly tonight in Kent. Yuk.

Feels autumnal (or fallish as we'd say here) with cool temps, gloomy sky, rain. It's almost time to look for sweaters and jackets; put away shorts and sundresses. The smell of fallen leaves is quite strong. It's been a rather melancholy day.

What a dark miserable day, here at any rate. It's going to be a very long winter and does anyone else find their sight seems much worse than usual, I mean more than it should? I suppose it takes time to get used to tnis murky weather.

When should we plant our spring bulbs?

I know why my sight has been below par; I went to a Native American dancing ceremony while I was away and was so excited at being invited to participate I dropped my glasses and someone trod on them...luckily our local optician is a gem and has resurrected them free of charge.

Our incandescant bulbs are for the chop too. 60 watt (the most popular) will no longer be made after next year. As for spring bulbs, plant them late September-November, before the ground freezes anyway. Our best tulips and daffs came from bargain bulbs planted just after Christmas one year.

I see wars, etc are taking over the MBs. I hope we are not losing sight of our little problems and discussions on weather, holidays, gardens, food and other topics.

For the record, autumn is galloping on apace. Today, murky, dull but dry atm.

Can't make up my mind whether to listen/watch the Last Night or not. They always bored me and it is on record that I walked out on at least one, also a First Night which got out of hand.

Yes we must never in the UK lose sight of the vitally important things i.e. the weather - Autumn has had the coalfields in its murky grip for what seems like weeks now - we have rain sadly.
I have never been a Last Night fan - but are you going to tell us more about the first night that "got out of hand"? Too much Bruckner?

Morning Anton, no the last night was when the arena people were jumping upand down and blowing trumpets and the Hall management were worried about the arena floor giving way. I was in the Upper Circle looking down on the chaos and thought an earlier train home would be nice. just got bored with the First Night
