Before we start moaning about OUR weather, just spotted this on a Norwegian weather forecasting station:

VENABYGDSFJELLET (NRK): November kom med det første store snøfallet. På Venabygdsfjellet har brøytebilføreren nok å gjøre.

The arctic air assocated with that is going to be affecting us for a while too - the difference is, the North Sea is still relatively warm at this time of year.

Exceptionally good this year, it is said, because of there having been no strong winds to blow them down.

Y'did, indeed. The first frost of the "year" yesterday morning, and temperatures dipped below freezing on the road back from Ilkley last night. The Euonymus has lost a lot of leaves and the Central Heating is keeping itself occupied, as "crisp" has turned "cold". A sudden start to November.

It's squirrels all over again, I tell ye!

Are these new arrivals as good at dealing with aphids as they are at spreading STDs, do you know, S_A? Or is there trouble ahead ... ?

Thanks guys! Unfortunately our visit to Sheffield Park was thwarted by other people, who had the same idea!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                      Brilliant!

Actually there has already been some snow not 30 miles from London - on Sunday morning residents of St Albans awoke to find a couple of centimetres of the stuff lying around everywhere, and it looks like many places north of Birmingham will get a clobbering as this occluded front moves in from the west later today.

Extremely bad timing for me - I hate snow and have to travel the rest of this week .

I had to come back in and pick up my gloves before cycling off to the shops; I'd forgotten that anything below 5 degs. Celsius is "cold".

Well it didn't happen here - and it appears that a severe outbreak of normality in the weather is taking place, with temperatures today reaching our 10 degree C average for the first time this month, winds coming in off the Atlantic, and a thoroughly wet and in places windy Saturday to look forward to!
