Yesterday (Sunday) afternoon was like this - unexpectedly - in deepest Hampshire, perfect for this visit...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Make the most of today, 'cos it's the last of the unseasonable warmth!

Oh, yes! Today is the 20th Anniversary of my moving into this house, so I celebrated ... erm, by spending much of the day away from it! A lovely walk along the canal between Skipton and Gargrave, popping in to the Wright Wine Company shop to view and make a selection from their "over 500 varieties of Whiskies"

Quite restores one's faith in the name "Wright"!

Chillier than the weekend here in the Pennines, too - but not as cold as this time last week; "crisp" rather than "stay indoors". And the sunshine on the COLOURS - what a beautiful Autumn we're having this year.

By the way - anyone else having "problems" with Ladybirds? Dozens of the things flying around and trying to get into the house!

                    .

... lovely weekend down in Wiltshire on annual visit to family - ritual walk around Stourhead : my! the colours!! the acers almost vulgar in their brilliance.

Back in London, seriously dull, and the drizzle has just made me rescue the washing off the line.

Still, in seven months' time it'll be June!!!

Overcast here with an unfriendly chill to the air, a complete contrast to yesterday's warm sunny seaside sort of day - spent it at Southwold.

                          See? - I did warn y'all!

Making the most of yesterday I did what will probably be my last longish cycle ride, taking in Clapham Common, Battersea Bridge (that lovely view west to Lotts Power Station, now defunct but still sticking its two chimneys rudely up, beloved of Whistler,Derain and others), Cheyney Walk (bowing down before the house where RVW lived), Kings Road, Gloucester Road, High St Ken, Earls Court, and back via the lovely Albert Bridge, with the lights just coming on, and Battersea Park, Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, Herne Hill. About 16 miles in all.

Apparently they're foreign imports; they mate with the native varieties, giving them some type of virus which renders them infertile, so wiping out existing species. I dunno: they come over 'ere, nick all our pollen, have sex with our 'birds....

It's our wedding anniversary today. Pity can't do very much at the moment but hopefully will make up for it when I'm in remission! Going to Sheffield Park this morning to see the glorious autumn colours there. this was Harold MacMillan's home.

At the moment sun is shining!
