One for the "Growing your own - is it worth it?" Thread, perhaps?
There was this lovely old lady where we lived back in the early 1970s, who had a very convenient back garden for night visits. She wasn't going to be raided, or even know...
After a couple of days of cold weather - friends living higher up the hills reported ice on windscreens for the first time this "Winter" - today was a lovely, mild and sunny morning in the Pennines; perfect walking weather.
I love this time of year - the glow of Autumn with the sun firing up the reds, browns, oranges, yellows and greens of the trees; and the cleansing fragrances of the air: gives me a real and grateful sense of being alive.
Well quite.
Can't beat a beautiful autumn day.
Its beautiful here in West Wales this week, beaches full of swimmers, surfers and happy ,well behaved dogs.
You couldn't wish for anything better.

Rather a foggy trip to the hospital this morning, to see the consultant, to tell me how I am doing. Great news, in a nutshell, the chemo is doing a good job! :)

Well I had hoped to make the most of the morning's strong sunshine to get out of one of my last longish cycle rides of 2016, but the cloud cover to the south-west indicated on the 1.40 mobile aerial cloud movement view has now thoroughly blanketed over, notwithstanding the forecasterette's optimistic prognosis for the afternoon, making the prospect of an outing less inviting. Nevertheless it has managed to peak the 16 C predicted, even here on the heights of S London, which means it must have got at least a couple of degrees higher than that in the W End. And it's the last day of the school half-term break, meaning I would avoid the usual rush between 3.15 and 4.30 that brings out the 4x4s in street-clogging profusion. So, in Charlie Parker's words, "Now's the Time".
I think Autumn certainly has arrived. A lot of leaves have fallen now and there does seem to be a nip in the air but you still see people dressedas though it's mid-summer

Very dull here, and even a little drizzle not forecast from time to time; but it has managed to reach a windless 16 C, which is 3 C above what might be expected at the end of October. Average max temperatures drop to 11 C at the start of November, but it is expected to drop to a couple of degrees lower than that next Wednesday, with a sharp northerly getting unerway which is predicted to stick around for at least a week, so... time to plan for bringing in those tender perennials!
Fog so dense here this morning rendered the end of the garden invisible! Bleary sunshine this afternoon not enough to raise the temperature to the predicted. It always takes a while to get used to it being dark by five.
