We had a very noisy night, and now it is dark and dank, like Port Harcourt in the rainy season. I am expecting mould in my wardrobe any day...

I slept through it! Very humid but I think there could be more this afternoon?

Same here, green holly! Meteorologically-speaking, it's called stratus cloud, just high fog really, though it resembles dirty old rags, and is the result of all that humidity hanging around without the wind to blow it away. Weather boffins have devised a lovely slang word for it - "clag"!

It was one thunderstorm after another right through the night, like they were queuing up. Just when you thought the thunder had died away into the distance enough to let you go to sleep, there'd be yet another huge white flash, seemingly from nowhere, followed by a long loud roll of thunder, announcing the next waterfall-like roar of rain. Apparently more than 40 mm of the stuff fell in less than an hour at one point; I expect there to be something about flooding and homes hit by lightning on the local lunchtime news today. Checking the live lightning map just now, I observe another line of storms cutting SW-NE across Brittany from the Bay of Biscay, which is suggesting a repeat performance today, covering much the same areas as yesterday but kicking off earlier, around teatime; but this time maybe +with a bit of luck it'll miss the south-east, and the Benelux countries will get the clobbering!

It mostly seems to be firing off in two places right now: in a line along the Sussex/Kent border, and around Ely. Here it's just steady moderate to heavy rain, not a breath of air - it feels like a sauna!

Well, oop 'ere, it's now nigh on 8 p.m., and it's been sunny, hot, bit muggy but not too much, all day, and dry as a bone.
Maybe for once, the NW has got off lightly - so far!

It's been the same here in sunny Staffs. Not a bad day at all.

What a dismal summer this is turning out to be! There has been a good deal of rain up here, some of it torrential. It's cool, even cold for July, and there is absolutely no sign of any warmer weather anytime soon. The Berghaus has never really been put away and gets worn most days.

What on earth is going on?

Brief, violent showers, some sun, but the real element has been the powerful westerly that has turned coolness into outright chill.
Back to some winter clothes to my amazement!

Yes - last year was chilly at this time, but it's actually been cold a couple of nights over this past week. Winter duvet still on the bed, and I shivered myself to sleep one night in sheer determination NOT to make a hot water bottle!

I gave in and had the electric blanket on for a short while two nights this week and will probably do so again tonight. Indoor temp is actually 21 degrees as I speak but it doesn't feel like it.
