A day of two halves up here. Absolutely vile start to the day with some heavy rain - again. Then in the afternoon it all cleared away to leave a pleasant summer's day albeit a touch breezy.

Question time: When is Midsummer's Night? Is it 23/24 June or 24/25 June? Just want to play Mendelssohn on the right night. Die Meistersinger clearly takes place on June 23/24 ('Johannestag') so no problem there.

No room on the pavements, as Southern trains are on permanent strike.

I wonder if BBM has a view on the Southern Trains fiasco.
They aren't making themselves very popular.
Staff are basically on unofficial strike, with lots of them calling in sick.

Not to worry - post Brexit Boris and his chums will doubtless move to re-nationalise that line.

If it was up to me, Casey Jones would get the franchise......

                    Steamin and a rollin! :)

I hope that Southern Rail do not get their Franchise renewed! Such dreadful behaviour from their staff. I am sure there are other ways of doing this, without affecting other peoples's lives!

Back on topic! An amazing day weather wise! Wow!

Sorry to veer back off topic for a second but were Southern Rail to lose their franchise, it would still be the same staff who would have to be taken on by First or Stagecoach or whichever of the dwindling merry go round of companies it might be awarded to. It's called TUPE.

Back om topic, just heard it mentioned on the football commentary that Paris has had the wettest early summer since 1932.

Yes, they appear to have had more of the really bad weather than we have here. There's talk of thunderstorms rumbling their way over here tomorrow night from France. A mate of mine is making his way down to the Glastonbury Festival tomorrow, but with any luck, they should avoid the worst of it, although it's not expected to be completely dry there either.

A much better day here today and, moreover, considerably warmer than forecast. It's been a typical June day of the sort we should be having. Forecasts are veering on the cautious side but temperatures here reached an very pleasant 23 degrees with a good deal of sunshine. The forecasts are so frustrating because they are not picking out the days that one can reasonably take off work and go for a day out. I only need a couple of days notice for this so surely they can oblige?

Quite a thunderstorm in progress here as I write: lots of lightning and thunder, some of it almost right overhead, but astonishingly little rain, so far, unless someone else is getting more than their fair share!

Edit - I spoke a bit soon there: absolutely hammering down now.

Had some of that here, too.

I think this lot's on its way....

Right under some pretty epic detonations now....
