More lightning was spotted here around 11 pm last night, but the cold front causing it passed through London just after midnight with little more than 15 minutes's worth of heavyish rain. I just now got caught in a brief rain and hail squall, cycling home with the groceries, and the edge to the wind indicates that we're still in this maritime arctic airstream (P1 type). But things are about to change, and from Sunday it's back to a westerly type, meaning alternating and at times breezy days of rain and sunny periods, but temperatures more-or-less where they should be at the start of May, which is to say 15 C maxima here in London. I have to say from the look of next week's predictions I've not seen as normal a weather pattern emerging for almost a year, and it should be possible to put in those tender annuals. Petrushka can breathe a sigh of relief!

Let's hope so but not just yet as there has been a fearsome, cold wind here today, the kind that shreds your face and very difficult to walk against. Coughs and colds are still going round the office (I'm currently on my third this year) and some degree of normality in the weather for the time of year would be much appreciated.

Had a very intense hailstorm here around 16.30 then after 5 minutes or so of an absolute deluge the sun came out. Earlier this morning there was a very cold wind again but that's now gone and it's beginning to feel milder.

MrsBBM and myself went to the RAH, London, yesterday, as Mrs.BBM wanted to see A Gala for St George. As it turned out was a great Patriotic evening and a good laugh too! A lovely spring day in Kensington. A walk round the Gardens before the concert as well.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your day up here yesterday, BBM. The blossom is amazing just now, and the good news is that from Thursday it looks like it's going to start warming up, lasting well into the following week. And be dry, too, with a large high pressure system to the east dominating!

The outlook for May looks distinctly underwhelming: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2635167#outlook

What's the word on the summer we might be getting? Anyone forecasting a 'barbecue summer' yet?

Tops invisible in white-out, mist, rain and increasing wind yesterday.
Today, Bank Holiday Monday, it is shovelling it down, whipped on by a big, bklustery, nasty westerly.

BUT p.m. sun, cloud, big blustery westerly.

I wouldn't have described that as too bad at all!

Next time, SA, perhaps arrange to meet?

                      A typical downer B/H today!

I think it depends on where you live. Doesn't look too bad for the south but for those of us further north it looks less than brilliant.

Now: pouring with rain, cold and windy. In other words typical B/H weather.

Rainy all morning in the Pennines - sunny and warm (comparatively speaking!) this afternoon. Just spent a pleasant (if rather muddy) hour in the garden.

That would be delightful, BBM. I don't do concerts these days by I visit the W End quite frequently; there are one or two pubs and a nice (not expensive) restaurant in Sloane Square where I meet up with family members when they decide to have a gathering in Town. In fact, I'm just back from there, having competed a round cycle trip visiting childhood haunts which weren't then the denizens of the super-rich, apart from one or two, but are now, exclusively. I passed a famouns TV actor is I was strolling around The Boltons, and we gave each other a nod, but I couldn't for the life of me remember his name, or what he's acted in, and they're still gone from my memory...

It's greying up from the NW now - I timed my ride rather nicely!

No weather reporting recently? Mind you has been a mixed bag!

There's an open garden day in the woods just up the hill from me this afternoon: proceeds to charitee, and with friends to meet up with there I'm watching those cauliflour cumulus clouds piling up and hoping either it holds until fiveish or rains somewhere else. Ditto for my laundry on the washing line!
