Morning marthe, sorry about your grim weather. It's not exactly grim here, much too windy for me though and very little rain.
Everything here is breaking down, me included. This dratted machine is so slow it's not true, TV red button on the remote, essential for Wimbledon tennis, doesn't work any more. in my case, it's not buying a TV that's the only problem, it's getting it all set up correctly. And taking away all the bits that don't work, of course. Never mind, worse problems at sea, as someone used to say.

you need a young relative or neighbour salymap, indispensable in this electronic age .... i have given up set-up duties and just ask sprog ....

it is going to be rather dusty i think in the coming weeks .... driving along the A43 at the weekend swmbo noted how far advanced into bloom many plants were ...early by weeks and months ... there was a spectacular combination of red poppies and wild rape seed in the central reservation the warm and dry conditions look set ... even today's heavy rain will not last out to reach the middle kingdom or south east ...
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

I do indeed need that sort of neighbour but they are old, like me, and do not use computers much. Local relis good support, not technies, hate computers. Help now in Turkey on hols, live in Devon. Excuse strange wording, am trying to keep this short before it cuts off again.

Saly, do you have a local secondary school, that gets its pupils to do 'good works' for the local 'oldies' ? (or or church perhaps). Perhaps you could get a willing youngster in to sort out your techie problems? Just as valid a request as doing your shopping or tidying the garden. They might even introduce you to some interesting websites

Terrific winds in Glasgow today (and rain) - at least one tree down in our park - rather, the tree was in the park; it's now mostly in the road.

A friend said he saw a woman literally blown away.

No footage of the wind damage in Scotland down here, Floss, just brief mention on the forecast. Another far-off land, innit! Here in London it's been breezy all day, and just now drizzling lightly, as the cold front passes over. Cold fronts usually bring downpours - but not to here, this year. I've just been watching Chelsea Flower Show. Some fantastic show gardens this year. V interesting programme coming up on BBC2 at 9, "All Watched Over by machines of Loving Grace", by Adam Curtis, whose documentary "The Century of the Self" blew me away and just about everybody I knew, some years ago.

As you say, SA. 'Twas ever thus. It has been as wild a day as I can remember. Tay and Forth road bridges closed, meaning sizeable diversions for many, including some of my colleagues. Roads closed because trees are down, with the same result. Ferries and trains disrupted. City of Inverness without power. A man killed in Balloch.

But hey, who cares? It's not London, so it doesn't matter.

Reports this morning are that there are 27 trees down in our park (Queens Park in Glasgow), with all the main paths blocked, & one of the main Edwardian wrought iron gates smashed.

Flossie and others in the North/Scotland. I am very sorry for the deaths, damage and general upset ofthese high winds.

Ishall never forget our 'hurricane' years ago ,and the sight of road-side trees keeling over and then sliding down the road the roots leaving big holes everywhere.

Still very windy here today but nothing like as bad as yesterday was. Good luck.

A day of clearing up in bright sunshine interspersed with violent rain squalls. I have spent 3 hours clearing leaves from the gardens at the front of the house and have yet to tackle the back. Several trees down in our village but fortunately none of mine.
Driving through Glasgow to the West End yesterday was like a slalom, avoiding fallen trees, branches and other debris.

Still pretty windy, with periods of bright sunshine, rain, & hail.
