Tops of the Beacons sparkling brightly white this morning, and now two days running of cloudless skies, brilliant sunshine but chillingly cold! Warning of severe frosts tonight but tomorrow again set fair - all change on Wednesday when it's back to a day of heavy rain. And - it's so light! Suddenly Winter darkness has gone without us even noticing.

Absolutely! Almost identical weather and forecast here in the Pennines, too. Sunshine on the light frosting of snow this morning; and sunshine all day yesterday. Traffic lights stopped me on the road from Skipton to Settle, giving me time to gaze at the landscape, just as Blue in Green started on the CD player - the mood created in me by the Music corresponding exactly with that caused by the landscape. Serendipity - dontcha just love it!

After a few days of generally sunny, bright & cold days we're back to rain & wind. I was in Edinburgh this afternoon, & my shopping trolley (empty) was blown out horizontally behind me.

I suppose you could say that I was (nearly) blown away by the weather

Over the course of today, a gradual dulling, with a kind of mistiness effect. Quite cold, as well.

Yes, dank and chilly by around 3pm and the hint of drizzle and the very lightest sleety-snowflakes...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Caliban is dead right. Bitter, deep dreech, and then SUDDENLY a spectacular rich, pervading gold and orange sunset that filled the sky. Literally out of block cloud.

So about par for the course in Scotland's otherwise beautiful capital city ... ?

The description of Edinburgh as 'East Windy, West Endy' is not far off the mark.

I do like the following though:

'Enchanting ... It shall make a delightful summer capital when we invade Britain.' (Josef Goebbels, 1938)

                      Absolutely appalling stuff oop 'ere.
Fells totally invisible, shovelling it down on ferocious wind, driving great billows of rain. And wow, is it COLD / wind chill.
I shudder to think what's going on in Scotland if it's like this down here!

....and yet the lighter nights here 50 miles south have me walking around in shorts and slapping on the factor 10....

Well, I can speak for the Highlands, Draco, and yesterday was sunny and bright all day, but cold, obviously. Today, it has been more cloudy, with some light rain, but no wind to speak of. We don't tend to get much wind in these glens.

not bad down here, nice enough to spend this morning starting to do some seriously heavy duty remodelling of a part of the garden.
The heavy work is now more or less done, I'm glad to say.
A few spots of rain this PM, but nothing much.

lets hope it is a nice weekend.

It's expected to be windy, with a few spots of rain, but very mild for the time of year.

Incidentally, average temperatures here go up 1 degree Celsius tomorrow - and continue to rise by the same increment 3 times per month onward to peak in the second week of July. Spring is on the way - waheeey!

(For nighttime temperature rises we have to wait until week 2 of April).
