Among the rather large collection of classical 78s cluttering up the loft and attic room are only two trios and here they are
at the end of the list. We are supposed to get more attuned to chamber music later in life and I have enjoyed working on these very much so it must be true. The Schubert comes first, it is played with great charm. The dancing rhythms of the composition are well realised in this performance by the Trio di Trieste. The Beethoven follows, a slightly less successful transfer as the discs have worn more, but you have Solomon, Henry Holst and Anthony Pini so the musical quality will, I hope, override the very few technical weaknesses. I am listening to the Schubert on Sennheiser HD 437s and it all sounds rather good so I will have to withdraw my occasional caveat about listening only in the front room!
