Choral Evensong service halted by buskers mid-way at Bath Abbey

Buskers have occupied the west front area of Bath Abbey for decades. Amplification, however, finally disrupts an act of worship...

It's a sad thing when disruption brings a halt to worship, be it choral or any other sort.

I'm happy to see decent buskers as a rule, (especially as my son does a bit from time to time) but Bath is absolutely overrun with them, to the point of intrusion, I find.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

And most with portable speakers and utter indifference to others' activities unless it be to drop coins. Wearisomely unnecessary.

Isn't there some sort of vagrants act that they can be charged with?

Bath council encourages busking, as being appreciated by casual tourists.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

... would FF care to parse this sentence?

I will withdraw elsewhere for a spell.

as it is Bath and NE Somerset Council (working for you, where everybody counts, honest guv, whatever) perhaps serious buskers intending to play for the casual tourists could be told to do some qualifying time in somewhere like Keynsham or Radstock first

Can just anyone busk, in any numbers and at any time, in Bath? These days it's very restricted in London: the Covent Garden precinct - Bath's nearest equivalent - demands very high standards and declbel control, I hear. (Or rather, don't).

                        .

I see Keynsham (Kay EE Why Enn Ess Aitch Ay Emm, Keynsham, thank you Horace Batchelor... ) has replaced Corsham in your text. Are you worried that the shades of former students of Bath Academy of Art at Corsham would be rising up against your proposal???

I have no objection to buskers as long as they do it without amplification

just thought it was better punish...er..... preparation for them.

Imagine being targeted by art student heavies from Corsham.

( Still Keynshams main claim to fame, its spelling, I think....though the co op has been replaced by a swanky new Waitrose......)

I thought you were going to say "without hesitation, repetition or deviation"
