Yesterday, I filled a device with cold water and took it to the beach where, a few hours later, I had a cool refreshing drink.
Then I remembered that I had filled the same device with hot tomato soup, a few months earlier in England and had a lovely warming soup on the Southbank.
How does this simple device know what to do?
David reply's: "It's a Thermos Flask, Victoria gave it to me.
Alex: "What does it do?"
David: "It's brilliant, it keeps hot things hot, and cold things cold"
Alex: "What have you got in it today?"
David: "Two cups of coffee and a choc ice!"

I don't expect the faux-left to understand working class people, but at least have some respect.

Fun over for today - Lewis handed over the parcel at 9.24. I'm deeply embarrassed that he couldn't get round the corner for parked cars and I watched him turn the other way. A DPD van appeared within two minutes, which I hailed, but it wasn't Lewis (they almost came face-to-face - in which case one of them would have had to reverse!). Lewis had to park in the next road and walk down (not far). I hope I haven't made him late
The fascinating thing is seeing the number of drops he makes all in the adjacent streets - he says he makes about 100 deliveries every day just in my postal area and the next oneIt isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I've had this experience with DPD as well. I couldn't be in but followed the van's progress from my office desk. A neighbour signed for my goods.
Great system to be sure but if I was a van driver I would not like to work under such intrusive conditions."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

good to see french [German? Spanish? Italian?] nationalised industries participating in our privatised free market [Maggie sold us out to the EU eh?]
competition = more info about less substance differentiated by small conceits eh ... they could automatically time the notification for after the actually estimated delivery time to impress you ff! EDF = Électricité de France
National Power = RWE, based in Essen, Germany. (This works to our advantage since my wife has plenty of work teaching German to employees at their Swindon head office)
etc...
Edit:Just realised RWE is not state owned, so doesn't apply

Tomorrow I have to wait in between 12 and 6pm, but it's a large item (new fridge) and removal of old, I guess it's impossible to do accurate timings for large deliveries but they promised to ring/text when an hour away.
