Watching the highlights, I was surprised to see the riders on the left of the road - in France, but then, it was the same over here when they were riding on the right.

The direction of the wind would have been the reason. Particularly in flat exposed lands, you ride on the side of the road with the most shelter It may have escaped your notice but they do not have to contend with traffic so they don't need to worry about being fined for being on the wrong side of the road.

I do realise that. It's the same with marathon running when roads are fully or partially closed. I've run quite a few and the rules of the road are the last thing on your mind.

Fantastic first week on the Tour '16...3 wins for Mark Cavendish on frightening looking sprints, a great breakaway win for Wirral man Steve Cummings yesterday in the Massive Central and then today a quite innovative breakaway from champion Froome at the top of the Pyrenees to fox his rivals on the long downhill run-in. Hot stuff! 5 stage wins in 8 days for British riders...as someone who has watched Le Tour for years when British victories were as rare as hens' teeth, it is really quite a delight, I have to say. There may be gold in them there Rios!

Of the two dogs in that amazing Yorkshire poster, I would love to identify with the whippet but am afraid I'd be lucky to fit into the bag on the handlebars....and the Yorkie's bow is not really very becoming.

Yes, what an opening week, bravo Cav and Froome.

Very interesting and I assume extremely painful riding position of Chris Froome. He must have had something stuffed down his pants - otherwise his voice might have been several octaves higher!

After that descent he could end up with odd balls, Oddball!
