The Controller, BBC Radio 3 takes creative and managerial responsibility for the running of Radio 3 and the English Performing Groups - the BBC Concert Orchestra (CO), BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (PO), BBC Symphony Orchestra (SO) and BBC Singers
Who is responsible for the BBC SSO and BBC NOW?

        At Director level, I presume:

Ken MacQuarrie (Director, BBC Scotland) - BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

Rhodri Talfan Davies (Director, BBC Cymru Wales) BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales

The Controller, Radio 3 "has a strategic relationship with" the BBC performing groups outside England.

I would very much like the second greatest English person to do it, according to today's freebie Sun posted through my door, but I'm certain he wouldn't.

I thought this was interesting: "He or she is also responsible for the commissioning and scheduling of Radio 3 and the delivery of the annual BBC Proms, through the Director of the BBC Proms, who the new Controller will appoint and manage." Does that really mean that when Kenyon resigned CR3 appointed himself?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

No, french frank, although our mutual friend considers that you would be ideal for the role. It is possible, of course, that Radio 3 could be run by the present Controller of Radio 4, as the same management could be in charge of both. The Proms job is in many ways more attractive than the Radio 3 job, and you probably do need a proven classical music administrator for this particular role?

The new Controller, Radio 3 may now be a foregone conclusion. On 1 July, the BBC announced that a very popular broadcaster, who earlier this year admitted publicly to a developing interest in classical music and who recently appeared in a week of programmes on Radio 3, will be moving on from hosting their current BBC radio show to explore new ventures.

So it's David Owen Norris, is it? Or Peter Day?

To correct my earlier post, it was more as a presenter than as Controller that my thoughts moved. But I think that, even as a presenter, with the departure of the architect of the current strategy at the very least we might expect some revolt at such a move, as felt to be less a vale-dictum as a vin-dictum.

But it presupposes that the strategy which considers presenters are the way to attract new listeners to Radio 3 is the way forward. I personally think that Radio 3 already has one or two suitable candidates.
