As I have mentioned elsewhere, throughout my younger days I attended a total of three schools & was expelled from two of them. I became self educated & have never regretted it. I have both fond & fruitful memories of these years but only a void where I succumbed to attendance in a school classroom. I made great use of my 'free time', reading much of the world's finest literature, sneaking into rehearsals for concerts & recitals, learning all I could about the contents of almost all the London galleries & museums & much more. I carry so much of this with me ( at the age of 91 ! ) I am continually dipping into an almost bottomless repository. I carry all this & much more with me - it has become a source of constant delight & for which I bless my good fortune for being me & no one else.

I would wish this to carry no boastfulness or arrogance, that is not intended.

Schools that operate the continental day seem to do OK.

And university lectures can begin at 8am.

Became unwell. Serious chest infection, went home, got better, gave myself up. The authorities were surprised. Firstly, sent to doctor for full medical check, OK. Then to some religious character who told me to get down on to my knees & pray. What fun I had with him! Then to a psychiatrist - saw his report later. Could find no problems , in fact I had the ability to assess all facts & act accordingly. Not the ideal person to have in the services ( his comment ! ) you're meant always to do exactly what you are told.!

Left a month early as I was categorised as a class B worker. The sergeant told me there were two categories of class B worker. 1. Building workers 2. Trouble makers.

Am still wondering which was my category as I received a glowing report on leaving ( ? )

Well it certainly doesn't happen a the posh school where I work! 8.30am in some cases or even earlier with individual music lessons! :)

When I was at boarding school, the "rising bell" went at 6.40 a.m. By the time e started lessons at 9.00, we were fully awake.
