    May morning

Just before rising I had a vivid picture in my head of a very large green frog sitting atop Magdalen Tower licking its lips with a satisfied air.

Then I heard a faint but musical belch.

Someone please tell me it didn't happen?

My wife went to work one Mayday in the early 1980s to see someone had pinned a small notice to the office noticeboard saying

    Hooray Hooray
    The first of May
    Outdoor sex
    Begins today

I am sure the frog in question was not a prince.

Frogs enjoy most activities underwater in a cold climate. Not so with humans, royal or otherwise...

My head is full of Housman (from another thread) and I can't help thinking that...
"And since to look at things in bloom
          Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow."

...seems an apt analogy. Why wait till May 1st? After all, people go bathing in the sea on January 1st.

Think I recognise the codger in the velvet hat.

Has everyone been 'on' something? Unhappily I am stone cold sober.

Fortunately, I am not. It's 4.30 on a very hot afternoon and I've had a few cold beers with my brother-in-law. I think.

A verse from the Bonzos' Jollity Farm

                    Regular as habit
                    The cocks begin to crow
                    Can the old buck rabbit
Sing Stuff it up your jumper
                    Vo-do-de-oh

just googled that Holman Hunt painting, and it seems to be mounted in a circular wooden plate, I wonder how big it is.

is the doubt about the beers, or the brother in law?

Just out of curiosity, like? or both, perhaps.

Ah, actually, I see that the doubt could be about the time, or the temperature.
                        All very confusing.

I am sober, although after a quick visit to "The Choir" board, things can become blurred.....

That's the version in Birmingham. I don't know how big it is.

The one in the Lady Lever Gallery in Port Sunlight is rectangular and large, though I couldn't give you the exact dimensions.

thanks. usual pre-Raphaelite symbolism going on.
