                      All this discussion about the unreliability of family histories reminds me of a joke related somewhere in the writings of Sigmund Freud (probably his book on jokes).

                      He-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed is out riding one day when he sees a peasant by the roadside. "I say, peasant, you look rather like me. Did your mother ever serve at the palace?" "No sir" said the peasant, "but my father did."
