There was a very good one in Series 5 (I think)....where he mimicked several of the posters on the R4 boards perfectly....in a plot where he was going on the boards positively critiquing his own programmes....I wish I could remember the board name he used....He also sent a goodbye post when the boards closed down....

In the episode mentioned in #1, Elgar has to be taken to the vet having been injured by Ed in his haste to get to the 'off' switch of his radio...

Aaah having just listened, I realise this was the episode to which I referred <why? the second 'r' eh?>....I thought it was the one where Radio 3 was targeted....

There is something just a bit too spooky for it not to be deadly serious ... . But the BBC, real and imagined, knows what makes for a winner.

Only just twigged you were indeed talking about the same episode.

The other one where he's getting at Radio 3 was the first one I ever heard, at your suggestion - but I can't remember which it was. I may have a copy at home.

Just bumping this as the episode I mentioned in the previous post was on this week - some lovely side-swipes at the 'Tweet/Brainteaser' mentality of R3 in this one!!

If these "lovely side-swipes" are delivered by Ed Reardon, surely the point is that he's an utter failure (both on his own terms and on everyone else's) railing ineffectually and ridiculously against reality. The comedy of recognition, I suppose?

The side swipes are in the script, i.e. on the part of the writers, rather than Ed.

Fun to see the Petroc Trelawney sound-alike (played by the excellent Simon Greenall) credited on the Radio 4extra page as "Radio DJ"...
