I would not normally find myself rejoicing in anyone's death, but the news that Fred Phelps has died at the age of 84 has made my evening. You will remember that he and his self organised church are the ones who picketed the funerals of American soldiers, claiming that they died because the nation encouraged homosexuality.
Since the members of his so called church were mostly family members, I doubt whether this evil organisation will survive for long now that its messiah is no more. Of course there will be no lack of bigotry and ignorance elsewhere, but every little victory opposing it helps. I watched the programme the other evening in which a gay doctor sampled some of the insane attempts to cure him, not just in America, but here in London. I find the baleful influence of these people very chilling.
