    I seem inadvertently to have put my foot in it, for which I apologise: my original objection was simply and exclusively to "There was a raft of white pianists who were able enough.." which to me carried the implication, intended or otherwise, that that degree of ability was associated with the skin colour. My mistake.

      Equally. I was using "white" as a kind of shorthand for a certain style. Not too accurate.

        music is colour blind ....... and the best of the west coast was as well ....

        interesting that given the thread head that some of the pianoless innovations were on the west coast
