this is a new label with a founding mission that we should know about and discover the music ... a label created and delivered by african american female jazz artists

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.
I really like the Shirazette Tinnin record but will return to the others later. The first track sounds good too. The link is also very interesting.
The first time I went to Vienne in 2001 one of the bands playing was an all girl group assembled from a number of American colleges. I thought their music was good but they apparently got heckled in one of the clubs one evening. I wasn't there at the time but the comments did generate some unsavoury comments by accounts. It's interesting how things have really changed since those days as we are now in a situation where there is a whole swathe of black, American jazz women who are producing some stunning music and enjoy a high profile. The most famous of the recent crop must be someone like Esperanza Spaulding who probably gets more press coverage than her male counterparts. Lined up with Terri Lynne Carrington and Geri Allen, the resultant trio is very much a dream line up as opposed to a novelty.
I would also have to say that I love the fact that jazz musicians are now taking control of their own music. New jazz is coming thick and fast these days so you end up in a situation where you can almost take pot luck and come up with something original and exciting like Shirazette Tinnin. Shame there is so little about her on the web as the Youtube clip was fantastic. She is absolutely brilliant. Trying to track down these players on the web but am struggling. More power to Mimi Jones !!!
