You made that up - it's Hopkin and she's white! Was Booker T Welsh and his MGs made at Cowley?

And yes maybe it is just the effect of age. I'm sure after a certain point one looks and finds further depth in the melodies one knows really well, making it harder - but never impossible - to absorb new tunes. Hence the preponderance [not here] of excuses for ageing rockers.......
Now I would like to see someone cover a Katy Perry tune, if only to see if it could be done.

The situation at Reading U was unchanged in 1988....Sociology dept was run by Libertarians...I managed to get through unscathed, though. I doubt any of the staff have appeared on Thinking Allowed, especially since it was closed in 2009.

....and in a foretaste of things to come, the uni videoed demos on campus ... oh yes the pres of the students union is now a Tory MP (Rob Wilson if you must know).

I read Politics at Reading for a year and then transferred to Warwick! Couldn't get clear fast enough. The cheer leaders for embryo Thatcherism and proud of it. Christie Davis taught Sociology then....author of the Reactionary Joke Book and all purpose tosser.

Prof. Davies was head of department in '88...I did joint honours with politics, ended up doing intl relations though by then Avi Shlaim hadbalready gone to Oxford for some strange reason. ..

One of my contemporaries at Reading was Jules Baggini

Well, fresh from the book of Rachmaninov transcriptions for alto sax I picked up in Foyle's yesterday for a song, perhaps that's a suitable task for what remains of the year........if only I knew any of her tunes..
