Self-effacing almost to a Kenny Wheelerish degree - the two of them worked together from time to time - Liverpool-born pianist Dave Saul was, to deploy the cliche in its rarest, truest sense, for once, one of Nature's gentlemen. Some of you may have caught one or another of Dave's Radio 3 broadcasts, featuring some of Kenny's best playing, by his own estimation, and that's saying something! My understanding was that Evan Parker was trying to get at least some of these released on CD a few years ago; we can remain in hope, but for the meantime the clips below are available:
