.... a very good habit to get into ....

Alyn has a magical selection all killer no filler [well pretty much stop niggling at the back]

    Julian is completely unmissable
concert music by multi-award winning jazz quartet Empirical featuring saxophonist Nathaniel Facey, bassist Tom Farmer , vibraphone player Lewis Wright and drummer Shane Forbes. Recorded at the Clore Ballroom, Southbank Centre as part of this year's London Jazz Festival.

Geoffrey explores those wailing warring tenors Wardell and Dexter G

Jon3 hits the unmissable groove with a selection from LJF Pigfoot, Wheeler the Zen Gnome, and Carleen Anderson all topped off with Claudia Quintet ... tasty eh ....

it gets worse Oddball! listening to the start of JRR on iP this morning i heard the end of the flick score programme and that it was cancelled next week because of the opera! straight to the schedule in pre anger mode only to find that the jazz is not only intact but enticing [more later] it would seem that the film music thing is a sacrificial anode, now protecting us from the appalling corrosion of our art by opera!

nice JRR btw the opener by Tubby Hayes took me back .... never mind JLU will take me into the future

the Ellington track on JLU is from a Proper Box collection Masterpieces 1926 1949 which is 93 tracks for a small sum as an mp3 download and not a lot more for a four cd box set the mp3 will do just fine ....

JLU was cut short by 30 minutes this week though - shame, I was enjoying the penultimate track (Mark Edwards - Watershed), which was faded out.

Geoffrey's hour of early west coast bebop tenor was a cool 'lude .... makes one wonder what might have been if Wardell had survived and managed a drug free life .... however nice though you can not take Geoffrey's mini survey as a guide, Wardell made many more recordings ... or amg

Blue Lou is food for thought, Calum.

Benny - The King of Swing - with humble vassals Duke and Count.

Wardell Gray totally brilliant and makes Benny totally redundant - a relic from a bygone age.

Where did the clarinet figure in BeBop? Nowhere as far as I know.

Jazz on 3 last night - very uneven IMV. I guess Jezz can't win them all!

what i meant was this - a shining example of the current decline in album covers imho
