Wayne Shorter would be a worthy subject of COTW. Mind you I recall in the 90s (this must have been around '95) they did a package of composers one week, including Duke and Kenny Wheeler.

Originally posted by Serial_Apologist View PostI love Bill Evans' music, and any excuse for a week of programmes on him.... but, COTW? Rather rubbing our non-jazz classical friends' noses in it, innit?l
But non-jazz classical friends can I think afford to miss a week of COTW. Last week we had Ethyl Smyth, a relatively minor composer, which indicates to me COTW might be running out of ideas.

Always makes me laugh.
Off to Copenhagen for Christmas and beyond, have a good one.

Yes indeed!....in the Swedish dvd I've got of Chet talking to Red Mitchell he repeats that much to Red's bemusement. Chet also said that every tune he played with Romano....'he turned it into a blues....all he could play was a blues...everything!" Maybe he had a reason!
Best for Christmas and 2014 CT.

Ditto Yulees, BN.
The time I saw Chet at The Plugged Nickle in Chicago...after his set he was approached by his 'connection'..
.disappeared...then returned and sat on (performer's) stool on bandstand...
eyes closed...
with a key light from directly above shining on Chet.
'Waking up' for the 2nd set.
