    ............ call me Trimtab

Alyn is in 1950s mode with the odd look back..... as an Oscar Pettiford completeist this track interests me:

Tom Talbert / Oscar Pettiford Candlelights
Performer: Tom Talbert, arr, cond; Joe Wilder, Nick Travis, t; Jimmy Cleveland, Eddie Bert, tb; Danny Bank, cl; George Wallington, p;. Performer: Barry Galbraith, g; Oscar Pettiford, b; Osie Johnson, d. New York, 1956..
    Composer: Beiderbecke
Bix, Duke, Fats, Lonehill, 10341 Track 5 (3.28)
Julian does more Quercus for those who like that sort of thing

Geoffrey essays Jack Teagarden touching on his sides with Bobby Hackett [underestimated as commercial] and Louis A .... [one of the interesting questions in jazz for me is when and why Armstrong's tone and style changed into the poetic strengths of his later style]

Jon3 gives out in all directions at once - how universal of them ...
    Fete Quaqua Festival 2013
Jez Nelson presents a series of short sets from the Fete Quaqua festival at the Vortex in London.
Quaqua is Latin for 'in every direction'; guitarist John Russell's annual celebration of free improvisation draws musicians from the UK and beyond to explore existing collaborations and one-off groupings. It's a music that's fresh and surprising every time ? and inevitably ephemeral. In the words of Irish pianist and Quaqua newbie Paul G Smyth, "it couldn't have been made by any of the individuals, it only sounds the way it does because of the people involved". This year's line up of 12 players includes the UK's Rachel Musson (sax), Alison Blunt (violin), Lawrence Casserley (electronics) and returning international artist Ute Wasserman (voice).

Don't know if anyone else caught the MOBO awards last night. Sons of Kemet got an award for best Jazz band. Courtney Pine was considered, but we didn't get as much as a pic or bar of music from him.

I hadn't realised there were so many different types of music in this flourishing music scene. I must admit that as soon as I see a young lad in a base ball cap and gesticulating away, I usually turn off. But there is a lot of worthwhile music there, I guess. I just wish these young lads would stand up straight (and get their hair cut?)

MOBOs are much better,or less bad, than the Brits or "Classical" Brits. Way back in the early 70s, I think it was in an interview with Leonard Feather, Miles Davis said we need the "Mammies" to run alongside the Grammies, always makes me think of the MOBOs.

I was losing the will to live...

Thank God for Utube for a bracing facewash of Oliver Lake.

Au Revoir les enfants...R3 "jazz" finally died at its own (presenters) hands. Will it be missed? Well who's hanging around.

In a housefire would you save Utube or R3's Jass for dead 50s metallurgists?

                            Kenny Klangtone was right.
