I was once introduced to a man who said he was Ray Bryant's minder in this country. It was at one of those lunchtime freebies that used to be held daily at the Festival Hall. That particular occasion was featuring Nikki Iles with her trio. At the end, this man walked up to Nikki, and told her that Ray Bryant was a great admirer of her playing, saying that of all jazz pianists on the international scene, no one managed to approximate the spirit of Bill Evans more closely than she. Nikki took this very well - some musicians might have said something like "Well, I hope he would find something original in my playing".

Mr Workman indeed. Theres an interview on Utube with Miles from 1953....before he "wrecked" his voice. Sounds really odd at this point.
Fancy seeing Slide Hampton in what was quite an advanced line-up for him. Or Slide Hampton, as Ronnie Scott would say with a dry chuckle...

        Thanks for these clips, Calum.

Edit Slide sounds almost like Grachan Moncur III on this!

I should say!!! I've always wanted to hear that recording, ever since being given a very faded photocopy of the cover by someone who informed me that the album had been stolen from his colllection many years previously, and this was all he had to remind him.

(I mustn't forget to cook my fish dinner! )

Mr Watson's entreaties to financial market regulators to exercise more fiscal responsibility went unheeded:

Big fan of Jawnny Guitfiddle Watson...from Space Guitar onwards.

Those Rik Colbeck Qrt tracks are remarkable. Cant imagine why the album hasn't been re- released, esp as Mike Osborne is at his peak? Ta for all this.

You've just been voted Jazz Librarian of 2013.

Too bad they are closing all the libraries down.....
