New Radio 3 schedule - Jazz

In case you have not heard, there's a response to the scheduling of JRR that was displaced so often earlier this year by opera. Today's press release from Radio 3 says:
The new scheduling will also make weekend Jazz programming more consistent. Jazz Record Requests, Alyn Shipton’s jazz listener recommendation show, will remain between 5pm and 6pm but will now be joined from 6pm – 7.30pm, by Jazz Line-up’s focus on new and mainstream jazz artists. The programme comes forward from its previous 11pm Sunday night slot. Geoffrey Smith’s Jazz will remain in its usual 12pm – 1am Saturday night slot, meaning that jazz lovers will have a regular Saturday night offering of jazz, with Jazz Record Requests unaffected by opera schedules.

Excellent news - at least, Alyn, I hope you think so?

So no real change there then. It's only the late 'slot' which will be free from cancellation due to opera coverage. At least, that's how I read it.

well a nice run of jazz just as the footie results come in .... nah good news and let us hope that the opera scheduling stays of the jazz time .... for ever!

Good for jazz fans - and another complete policy U-turn to add to something of a list of scheduling U-turns. 'If at first you don't succeed ...'.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

But what about when they are relaying NY Met live, and the clock changes don't tally? That, and Wagner length productions are what has been the source of the problem in the past, and that is unlikely to change, surely?

Exactly. Doesn't the new schedule make it even more likely that JLU will be cancelled?

NOT "cancelled" surely? More prob. given a "sweetener" and asked to exit the building very quietly. And don't count your fkng money in the lift.

Mark Byford writes..."There's nothing Mrs Bypass and I like better on a warm September evening than sipping a 2013 sweetener on our 1000 acre hand rolled lawn while Mr Shipton plays our JRR request for Monty Sunshine's HMV recording of "Keep it Focused! " Long may this wonderful program and tip top state of affairs continue."

Excellent news, but with the caveats above. Not really new though is it - much like it was before when the "jazz zone" was a little earlier.

Perhaps this is an indication that Live from the Met will be dropped

Shouldn't "cancelled" be spelt with just one "l" in any case when referring to jazz?

It may be news - but it's nothing new. The current regime came in with a policy to move two hours of jazz tucked up in the late night slot down into the daytime schedule. Lo! Jazz Notes became Jazz Legends (Fri afternoon) and JLU (to Saturday afternoon Jazz Zone, joining JRR and Jazz File). Next policy was to move everything except JRR back to late nite listening again, losing Jazz File in the process. Next policy, to start moving a bit more jazz down to Saturday afternoons/evening.

My own solution would be for JRR itself to, perhaps, have to shift now and again to accommodate the live opera; but that a permanent quid pro quo should be better jazz provision in other slots during the weekday schedule.

Given that the Radio 3 jazz audience is pretty much <ahem, shuffle> the same average age - if not a tincture older - than the classical music audience, and therefore not necessarily in full-time employ, why not get rid of In Tune for one day and make it a jazz programme?
