Thanks Alyn - that album is on my wishlist. I was half wondering whether to remove it. I am now encouraged to leave it on!

I think Paul Bley's albums are all pretty consistent. My introduction to his music was with the quartet ECM album called "Fragments" that also included Bill Frisell, John Surman and Paul Motian. A lot of the tunes are very slow moving but the music is fascinating. Solo-wise, I've always loved "Tears" 9on the French "Owl" label) which concludes with a wonderful tribute to Roy Eldridge. However, he seems incapable of making an album that is not to very hgh standards.

I have had long chats to him (remember the Ornette series I did for Jazz File in 2000?) and PB is loquacious and interesting about the Hillcrest et al. But he also intimated he is sparing about where and how often he plays. (I'd just heard him in duo with Charlie Haden at the Kaplan Penthouse in the Juilliard School in NYC). KJ on the other hand (remember my 4 part Jazz File with him? And recent interview in Jazzwise) has that old desire to play as often as possible - very different aesthetic. IMHO the new KJ trio album has some brilliant moments. How Deep is the Ocean and Stars Fell on Alabama are both classics...
What did people thing of the pieces played? So far I have only heard the Jarrett, not from the subject CD, which I thought was excellent. Will catch up with the rest of the show this evening hopefully.
