My friend who was at the Vortex for the broadcast Lehman gig emails to say, "The gig was very interesting and original - to me at least - but intriguing rather than blowing me away". He is very much into Peter Brotzmann. So, don't expect to be blown away, then!

Very interesting agenda for tonight. Surprised to learn of Ornette taking on Tony Kofi, a quite straight-ahead man; but he has used one, Guy Barker, in the past, (hmm).

that Jamaaladeen Tacuma For The Love of Ornette sounded very fine to these ears and Mr Kofi is an adventurous spirit, ever since i saw him just blowing at a local pub i've felt he could go places....

Mark Shim is catching my ear at the moment ...

enjoyed the set by the Lehman Octet and will listen again ...

the state funding thing is wishful thinking in the uk, even with Ken C in the cabinet ....as if the CUTS and the DEFICIT do not exist .... pointless really ...

Enjoyed the Lehmann - not much soloing - I guess when the music has to be that carefully formulated it's a job not to upset the kind of balance seemingly required - but what there was was right up to the mark: excellent trumpet player. Interesting (from my contemporary classical hat) that spectral music is at last lending its influence on jazz; Kevin Le Gendre made a very good job of explaining the theory behind spectralism, btw.

Tony Kofi still does the rounds of the pubs here in the Smoke - back on alto, mind!
