    Connie Crothers

i have unhappily spent forty or more years in complete ignorance of this remarkable jazz artist .... she came into my view this afternoon in the Lennie Tristano documentary on the week review post ....

here she is in concert on her labels video site

here is the allmusic review of her discography
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

    Thanks for this Calum.

I only ever heard one track of Connie Crothers, and it was on JRR back in the mid-80s. It was a few years before I found out anything further about her, because of mishearing her name on that broadcast, and one was then told that she had been a Tristano disciple in all essentials under his shadow, though it had been quite clear from that track (a trio number iirc) that she had taken the Tristano idiom further harmonically while displaying a looser relationship to the beat - a logical outcome of harmonic expansion outbidding the cadence, as any good Schoenbergian might say. One might place her in some delayed gap between her teacher and Paul Bley, perhaps?

... indeed and a way away from Ran Blake and his noire romanticism .... did you know Cecil T had lessons with Lennie?
