    Mulgrew Miller RIP

Not sure if anyone here has picked up on it yet but the excellent Mulgrew Miller died c. 29 May from a stroke. He had had a small one a few years ago but recovered. Theres a nice, sincere, obit\appreciation in the Guardian from John Fordham.

    Far too young.

    BN.

Alyn did a very good Jazz Library interview et career profile with him as I remember back in the daze.

Alyn, apologies, so it was. My leaning tower of C90s grows ever higher.

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

          Yes much, much too young.

He came over as a kind and generous man in the Julian Joseph interview. He had a fine technique and touch but he didn't use it to show off .A mainstream player but one who could thrive in more contemporary bands There are some very nice trio albums of his which don't get enough attention

          They are on spotify

I'm really saddened by this news. I saw him perform last yearand he has always been a pianist who I hugely admired ever since I first heard him on an old Brnaford Marsalis album.

              Same experience here, Ian.

Harold Land's last album, "Promised Land", recorded c. 2001 when Harold had advanced emphysema and Billy Higgins is also nearing the end, is held together by Mulgrew's piano, inc a very fine and moving What's New done as a duo with Harold. Worth a JRR request?

He 'hit it off' musically with Kenny Garrett as well...

This is terrible news - far too young these days. He was a fine pianist. His album Wingspan was very good IIRC...must give it a listen.

He also did a fine job on that standards album with Cassandra Wilson, esp the version of "I Didn't Know What Time It Was".
