Mr TC will be watching this, no doubt

This coming Sunday on BBC4, 2200 hrs:

Anita I'Day - the Life of a Jazz Singer
An in-depth portrait of the US jazz diva, who died in 2006 at the age of 87, exploring how the bop vocalist's long and sometimes troubled career rerached its peak as she performed Sweet Georgia Brown at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. Includes interviews with O'Day, who describes how she battled addiction to alcohol and heroin
Speaking of absent friends, I see on Tuesday, also on BBC4: The Art of Tommy Cooper.

It's just that being told why I should like a singer/comedian when.... why am I watching the programme in the first place?... grates somewhat ( or even, pace Damon Runyon, more than somewhat) and gosh Jazz singers need timing, well thank you Leonard for your insight! And you have to wonder how hard the clichéed artist really did "battle" with drugs, alcohol etc. etc. in any case I have Anita at the Berlin Jazz Festival in 1970 so I gave up on BBC4 and enjoyed the quartet which is almost certainly the same as you'll find on youtube

the second part, recorded in Oslo in the same year, has in common with the LP "Let's Fall in Love", "I Can't Get Started", and Paul's "Yesterday" segueing into Kern/Harbach/Cohn's. The pianist is George Arvanitas, Jacky Samson, bass and Charles Saudrais, drums. There is a beautiful number "Your Wings" on the LP which I have recorded and will make available if there's any interest.
