Did you see last night's programme?
A wide selection of Jazz styles, with a brief acknowledgement towards Dixieland and then jumping straight on to "Progressive" Jazz, but thankfully stopping just about short of the so-called "Modern Jazz"; which to me seems to be without purpose. (even the performers appear not to know what is coming next!)
Interesting for me to see Ben Webster playing with Ronnie Scott. The contrasting styles of Dizzie Gillespie and Wynton Marsalis.
All those tenor saxes and some fine drumming (largely unacknowledged on the credits).*
HS
* Well, in America, anything blown through is called a "horn" (shades of Bix Beiderbecke) but the only horn that I saw was a Flugal horn played in the last number - a mish-mash of an item which, for me, spoiled an otherwise interesting historical journey.
