Although I am a great fan of opera, I could never understand why it should be broadcast on radio. As a multi-media art form, surely its place is on television; it should be televised and shown on BBC 4. That's where its true home lies.

          If only ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

.... not me El Senor ... i recall in the good old days of the South Kensington Labour Party [now there is a lost cause] the ducks on the chairman's lawn ...

but these senior BBC types are totally untrustworthy and now they have had their exes accounts trimmed nothing is safe!

Chairman Mao warned in an early essay that ducks were "unproductive"(vs chickens) and shouldn't be encouraged.

About 18 months ago I managed to get Little Richard's "Taxi Blues" played on Radio Wales as a "tribute" to Menna Richards, the then BBC Wales director and her massive taxi bills! They were too dumb to realise the joke.

                        "Taxi, Taxi,Take me anywhere..."

Just a up-date on this weeks Geoffrey Smith's Jazz: Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang prog.

You ask about the truncating of the music in these podcasts. This is for commercial rights reasons, to do with the download-ability of commercial tracks contained within the programme. Legislation about this is outside the BBC’s control, being a matter for the commercial music industry, with whom we have negotiated the rights for short extracts - but not full-length downloads. I appreciate that this might seem to fall short of the broadcast original but it nonetheless gives a flavour Geoffrey’s complete treatment of his subject which I hope you might find enjoyable.

Thank you again for writing: and I hope you will continue to enjoy Radio 3’s Jazz offering across the board.

                          Dear Robin

Thank you for responding to my last email.

I am sorry that my promise of the fully reinstated audio of Geoffrey Smith’s Jazz on the BBC iPlayer was so short-lived. It certainly was working at the time I wrote but it seems a glitch has blocked it since. I have alerted the technical team to this problem and they are currently trying to resolve the issue, though the problem seems to be more intransigent than expected. I hope that before too long we will have the full audio up and running on the iPlayer site.

                          Apologies again that you were inconvenienced in this way;
                          All good wishes

Still waiting, shame, what I heard of was a very good prog.

Pleased to report that the whole of this lovely programme is now available

                              Dear Robin

With some trepidation, I venture to announce that the audio for Geoffrey Smith’s Jazz from last week is now up and running on the iPlayer

I know that I stated that on Monday, just before it crashed, but I hope that this time, the upload is more robust and the glitch eradicated.

                              With best wishes

I see that JRR is to be rendered to 8.30pm tomorrow night to make room for another "Carry on Callas"with R3s Sid and Babs. If these Cheeky Girls over run again no doubt JRR will be waterboarded. Hard.
