Teh Competition: Alternative Stations to Radio £3 Available Online

Meh, nowt on Radio£3 much of the time so when I'm at home I like to listen to other stations, innit.

First here's dear old WNUR: http://www.wnur.org/ It's often patchy and plays jass only during the hours of 0500 - 1200 Chicago time (1100 to 1800 in the UK) but sometimes plays some interesting stuff. The other day they played some Mingus and followed it up not long afterwards with David S. Ware playing "Tenderly" (not the version on Balladware).

The Danes have a good station too in P8 Jazz at http://www.dr.dk/p8jazz. Much more mainstream and a lot of Eurojazz but they played a lot of stuff that Bluesnik would like (David 'Fathead' Newman for example). DR Radio also have an Android smartphone app available so I was able to listen on the phone, too. (Even though the only Danish I know is from watching Forbrydelsen and Borgen I was able to download and operate it no problem.)

Anyone got any more links to share?

Thanks to another boarder I'm now listening to R3 (R£3? ) on the iTunes stream - and at 320ks.

Jazz is not really my bag, but I just checked and estimate that iTunes streams about 200 Jazz stations.

The closest thing I've found to Jazz Library - apart from all the actual JL podcasts of course, is this excellent series of France Classique. There's usually a real expert on hand - the upcoming show with Mazetier on Waller should be a treat as Louis is one of France's finest stride specialists: http://sites.radiofrance.fr/francemu...e_id=100000067

Thanks for the link Jass. Now bookmarked on my computer. I like the way each piece has a thumbnail picture of the performer and the title running along the right-hand side together with CD details so that the listener can explore further if a particular piece catches the interest. Perhaps R3 could learn something from this?

Another suggestion, when JRR is being shifted, sorted et shafted by the SLOpera...

"The Jazz Standard" on KWIT (Iowa), much like JRR in its range but minus the requests...OK, nothing like but equally good. Podcasts available.

My ducks find this a highly relaxing way to spend two hours listening up, et down, with a bottle of Grappa.
