    REALLY sorry to hear this, one of the truly greats, from records with Jackie Mac, JR Monterose etc, to his own excellent albums.

    And holding down two careers...

        Very sad news. I liked Lawyer Pete Sims, as he was known. His playing in Sonny's trio was interestingly different from Elvin. When I talked to him for the Jazz File on Blue Note he said his favourite session was Night of the Cookers with Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard.

          And...he was the drummer on Bluesnik.

          I always thought he was up there with Billy Higgins, lighter than Philly Joe or Elvin, but with a wonderful drive...and ears.
