Heaven we are in heaven, no cares hanging from the week

Alyn keeps it tuneful with some fun from Mr R Kirk & Al Hirt ... and as Bluesnik notes Jessica Williams

    Geoffrey does Saint Sonny

    JLU goes ever so tasty
Kevin Le Gendre presents concert music from the 2012 London Jazz Festival recorded at the Clore Ballroom in London's Southbank Centre. The programme features performances from Canadian bassist Michael Janisch and his Quintet, experimental Finnish jazz ensemble Oddarrang and Armenian pianist Tigran Tigran Hamasyan.
Jon3 surpasses all the above with a gig from very heaven

Jez Nelson presents Matthew Shipp, the masterful and somewhat outspoken pianist, live in concert with his trio at the London Jazz Festival.

Matthew Shipp's career has spanned everything from the avant-garde through to hip hop and electronica. First rising to prominence as a sideman with saxophonist David S. Ware's quartet and Roscoe Mitchell's Note Factory, Shipp has since concentrated on leading his own projects and has also participated in some unexpected collaborations - including with hip hop's Antipop Consortium and DJ Spooky.

Despite returning to the more traditional trio setting, Shipp's playing remains ever-progressive. The individual voices of the band - featuring Michael Bisio on bass and Whit Dickey on drums - ebb and flow in and out of conversation, creating music that touches on the more delicate side of classical and avant-garde influences.

Really good line up today, kind of jolly and quirky. I liked the Pilgrims Chorus and this Amazing Grace is fun. I do hope Alyn realises he is the highlight of my Saturday afternoon whilst I am chained to the kitchen .....
(it's the essential filler between non-essential Saturday Classics and the witheringly boring Op at the Met)

i am not hanging round here for long, just long enough to say
      1. I have been plugging Boogaloo Joe Jones all week to anybody daft enough to listen.(daft enough to listen to me, not BJJ..he is groovy).

      2. Alex Harvey did my fave version of Cheek to Cheek.
But he was my musical hero.

3 .Enjoy the festival jazz lovers.

Unchain My Heart - Ray Charles? Very neat David Newman tenor solo!

Hey Alyn, if things go on like this at the BBC you will be the last man standing!

Time to dig out that pitch for the Elmo Hope Hour on R4 instead of the Archers. King Pleasure on Thought for the day?

Breaking News! Newsnight to be rebranded as Jazznight and Caroline Thompson renamed Lucky and given the DG top job.

Thought for the Day to be given over to jazz and poetry and The Archers to be reconfigured as a rural blues show set in Alabama.

            Its an ill wind etc.
