When Tomasz Stanko took to the stage during July of last year at the Glasgow Jazz Festival, he did so without his billed colleague of Lee Konitz, who had to cancel due to illness. Nevertheless, the audience at the Old Fruit Market in Glasgow, were treated to a soulful selection of tunes with the trio of Florian Weber, piano, Jeff Denson, bass and Ziv Ravitz, drums.

Jez Nelson presents a selection of recently recorded, previously unbroadcast music from the Jazz on 3 vaults. The archive includes sets from Adventures in Sound, Jazz on 3's curated free improvisation event at the 2011 London Jazz Festival; and a specially recorded solo session by US saxophonist Marcus Strickland. Also on the programme, Jez and guest critics cast an ear over recent album releases.

No idea what you're on about, handsomef. On I-player, it's 1 hour 10, which gives you a chunky trail before hand and a bit of through the night afterwards. No idea where all this nonsense about 1 minute comes from. But as Jazz Library is off for good in 3 weeks, it probably doesn't really matter.

of course it's 1 hr 10 mins in reality alyn, BUT it states 1 minute on the iplayer - (look beside the 'play' symbol and 'listen now' as linked below) and it has done for a couple of weeks.

And the final programme is not a repeat, but a set of archive interviews on British jazz of the 30s, 40s and 50s with Kenny Baker, Vic Lewis, Annie Ross and Coleridge Goode. A last chance for me to air some of the conversations I've had sitting in tape boxes for a while...

We've just been down to the Jazz on 3 cellars, where we store the unbroadcast music from recent recordings. And we've returned with some of the best of the 2011 vintage to uncork on this week's programme.
The London Jazz Festival produced a great crop last year, so we're taking all our selections from that. Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal's performance with his septet in conjunction with a British big band was epic – of magnum, or even jeroboam proportions - and, though we played a lot of it first time round, it's simply too good to waste. Then, a limited-edition duet from the Adventures in Sound free-improv event that we curated – vibes player Corey Mwamba and pianist Robert Mitchell team up for a set full of warmth and gentle surprise. Lastly, a solo performance by the ‘Jimi Hendrix of the tuba’, Oren Marshall. We recorded him at the festival’s launch party at Ronnie Scott’s as he warmed up the crowd, and ended up knocking their socks off.
Interspersed with the live music, we've a bumper selection of new releases to sift through with critic John Fordham, including music by Vijay Iyer, Billy Hart, and British pianist Alex Hawkins.

well last time i posted what i thouight about Pascoa i got twittered to death ... i am not too bothered with this really ...

i am very sorry to see the end of JL and many thanks Alyn for your strong efforts on our behalf and i wish you all the best for JRR and the future of jazz broadcasting on Radio 3 ... i am sure you will enjoy the opportunity to engage with us punters on JRR as much as you did with your feedback programmes ...
