Jazz Poetry Improv gig, April 10

    Hi folks,
i live in france and perform jazz poetry there, and sometimes in London. here's info on my latest jazz poetry impov gig (poems by Langston Hughes & Beat poets) in a little subterranean venue, just behind the Vortex:
    venue & info: http://servantjazzquarters.com/event...ry-taran-singh
    band website: http://taransfreejazzhour.com/jazzpoetryimprov

those familiar with the free improv scene in London will find the line-up interesting:
    Colin Webster, saxophones
    Noel Taylor, clarinets
    Taran Singh, poetry
    Ollie Brice, doublebass
    Pharoah Russell, drums

    - taran singh

Edit: Hello, jazzpoetry! Just to make it clear, we're not really here to act as an advertising board for commercial promoters, but I will allow this one to stand as being of possible interest to boredees. Good luck!

It's absolutely fine. It's just that we wouldn't want everyone who had a gig to use these boards solely for advertising, as they're really intended for Radio 3 listeners to discuss the output of Radio 3 (although, to be fair, you wouldn't always guess it!). Welcome, and do feel free to start or enter any discussion

The rest of them might know this, but what exactly is jazz poetry?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

hi ff, thanks. jazz poetry is poetry read aloud with live jazz. some jazz poetry has music built in it, you can feel the rythm as you read it. you should try reading some langston hughes and you'll know. or check out some exerpts on my website: http://taransfreejazzhour.com/jazzpoetryimprov

and i do listen to radio 3, especially jez nelson's show.

I'm left wondering if all still available copies of Red Bird are now as scratched as mine!

Thanks for that little gem, Calum.

I met Larry - via John Montgomery (Morley in Kerouac's Dharma Bums) - in about '90, or so.
