I first encountered the name of Joe Harriott when I was still in short trousers (OK, I still wear them) because my parents were given a copy of Indo-Jazz Fusions which I played to death. (I became very partial to Hum-Dono, too.) He had such a distinctive sound, like Jackie McLean, you can spot his solos a mile off. Who knows what he would have produced had he lived longer. Such a great loss.

now and again will do grippie, oftener would be nicer but absence is to be avoided ....

hanging would be to overstate the case these days grippie .... last gig was Stan Tracy, excellent quartet and lovely compositions revisiting Dylan Thomas as muse ....
