APOLOGIES to all that the JRR dedication got dropped. These seem to be "time limited" as I requested Elmo (and another track) way back in Sept. "Like Someone" is maybe not typical of that Trio album - Elmo's originals are far more spikey but I have always loved it for its off centre sadness.
Anyone really interested in his trio playing (real class with Philly JJ, Paul Chambers etc.) ck/out the 4CD set on Gambit. It's all there from 50's Bluenote to the final '60s sessions.
AS to Elmo "missing" - he also went missing from Sonny Rollin's '54 Prestige date with Monk ("I want to be happy" etc.) - They grabbed Monk at the last minute after an Elmo no show! And he went missing yet again after the Harold Land (Elmo, Scott Lafaro etc) at the Jazz Cellar gig in Canada...No one got paid, so Elmo got high! Harold remained a great admirter...as did Hamp Hawes...Elmo as a complete composer/pianist.
BN.
Life Clue..."Carving the Rock" was writtern by Elmo and Sonny after prison time together in the early 50s. He was also in Rikers with Chet Baker.
