Amazed that no one has really picked up this thread and run with it. Mendoza is one of the musicians who seems to get taken for granted as he often works with larger ensembles which seemingly appear to take the music outside of the jazz context only for listening to the recordings to reveal a very accomplished musician with a great ear for jazz. There is a very good album he released with John Scofield in 2010 called "54 which takes a large orchestra through a selection of Sco compositions w ho nimbleness of their feet is worthy of a much smaller ensemble. Very impressed with this musician.

The first time I encountered his music was in the aforementioned film with Bjork of which the orchestral score was the only thing of merit within a thoroughly wretched film.
