    Blue Notes, Cold Nights

After Memphis Minnie today, Radio 4 strikes again tomorrow with Eric Bibb talking about Don Cherry and Dexter Gordon in Copenhagen.

How Scandinavia became home to a generation of African-American jazz and blues musicians.

Interesting, I'm both a Don Cherry & Dexter Gordon fan.

        hello zola and geofflikesmusic.

worth a listen, just to hear an attempt to cover these contemporary points.

Over the decades generous state support for musicians has helped the music scene in the region to flourish. But now that the host nations are facing their own immigration crisis, will musicians continue to find a welcome? And how easy is it to sustain creativity thousands of miles from your roots?

One of the problems/wonders of the Danish scene in the late '60s/70s was that you "could see Dexter etc. most nights". Hence audiences became somewhat blase... "tomorrow, tomorrow". Dexter replaced Brew Moore as THE "American tenor" in town. Brew was sidelined.

Shame they couldn't run some interview material with Dex or Kenny Drew etc.. Danish radio has reams/hours.

            BN.
