    Library 11.xii.11 Sanborn, David

David Sanborn is a far more interesting artist than much of his commercially successful albums may lead one to believe .... he speaks to AS at the 2011 LJF
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

I agree - I think Sanborn has probably had more influence on the playing styles of subsequent altoists than practicably anyone else since the early 1980s. Or even before - Barbara Thompson mentions him as an influence.

It would have been good to have had that particular track on the playlist just to show what he was capable of and hear where all these alto players are coming from - but I shall listen to the rest of the programme with open ears.

What about Steve Coleman or Greg Osby?

Apologies to anyone here who might have been unfamiliar with Sanborn for my over-hyped anticipation of the programme, which didn't I think bring out his radical aspects in the selection.
