Monk solo in Paris, 1954

A recent discovery for me was Thelonious Monk's solo piano session recorded in Paris in June, 1954.
Monk is in exhilarating form on 8 of his own compositions and one standard, 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes'.
Apparently, Monk was so delighted with this Paris session he bought a supply of berets to take home to his friends in New York! A Monk album that deserves to be better known.

my recollection of critical opinion is that the 1954 sessions are excellent but beware later dates in paris ...
