There are certainly times when I almost leap up halfway through a symphony to change the side of the LP. I also feel that my beloved Beatles Remastered CDs work best when thought of as 'sides', since each side seems to consist of a balanced programme. 20/25 minutes is a good concentration span too; after that, some exercise and a slight pause seems appropriate.

Of course the passive listening being encouraged these days makes concentration purely optional.

The recent reissue of Carmen McRae's Carmen Sings Monk comes in a facsimile of the original LP sleeve, which means that, as well as the sleeve notes being too microscopically small to read, it still lists the tracks on side one and side two. To complicate things further, there are some bonus tracks on it which weren't on the original release. So on the one playable side of the CD, there's Side One, Side Two and No Side At All of the LP.

Wasn't there an early single on Stiff Records which was advertised as "the world's first double B-side"?

I would have liked to have voted, but whenever I try, I am told I have already voted. Not being a cheat, I would not try to do this, but if it were a "serious" (i.e. binding) poll, I would have felt cheated myself.

                  In fact a dissatisfied disenfranchisee.

Um, well, you haven't exactly been disenfranchised as your vote has been counted. If you whisper to me what you would have voted, I'll tell you whether that was what your vote was recorded as ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Well, if Eine A clicks on the figures it shows that he voted No. (I didn't realise you could see results! It seems I voted No Idea, and I have no recollection of ever having voted either )

Well, thank you for that but it isn't strictly true. I do sometimes imagine changing to side 2 midway through listening to longer symphonies (including the middle of the slow movement of Beethoven's 9th. It happens every time I reach the summit in Eine Alpensinfonie, which had to be the most monstrous (though unavoidable) turnover in the history of the vinyl disc. It seems appropriate that this work was the first classical piece to be pressed on CD.

I didn't know you could do that either!!! (I went down to the engine room and ferreted about to find out.)

If you're not logged in you can see the results, but it tells you you can't vote. If you're logged in and haven't voted, you don't see the results, just the voting options. And it says "Be advised that this is a public poll: other users can see the choice(s) you selected." You can also click on View Results and the names of voters are displayed; and then go back to the voting view.

If Alps wanted to change his vote he would have to say what he wanted his new vote to be and then mentally add one to that choice and subtract it from the other one.

therefore all disenfranchisees should now stand at Heaven's Gate.

For example: take a look at the (final) voting poll results for the Republican Presidential primary in the state of Iowa.

Originally, Romney was declared the winner by 8 -O C H O - votes, with over 60,000 total votes cast!

Rick Santorum - Final total: 29,839 Change: -168
Mitt Romney - Final total: 29,805 Change: -210

Heldenleben at the beginning of the Battle scene, SF half-way through Scenes du champs, Rite of Spring begiining of Sacrifice! I think that the introduction of CDs was justified for two reasons 1) making this practice unnecessary, 2) meaning that the inevitable surface noise on less than new issues of Firebird no longer had to be endured.
