Thanks Calum. I always enjoy JF's contributions to the paper, and have been very pleased with some of his CD review recommendations in the Friday edition. I think he does appear on the occasional Jazz Line Up/Jazz on 3.

I see a jeznelson is one of the commentators at the bottom, unless of course it's somethin else masquerading as da Man!

Yes, John Fordham has been very consistent for a jazz critic.

Personally, am glad to called attention to New York Jazz Quartet which features Tim Armacost, - whose tenor playing as consistent as J.F.'s birding....

Mr Shipton himself was fairly effusive in this regard in April's* Jazzwise also.

I was at the gig the Arild Andersen/SNJO CD was recorded at. A great concert, and I can't wait to hear the album (I think the official release date is Monday 18th).

Jon Dennis: You don't need to turn to rock to get a feel for London at the end of the 60s. Try some British jazz instead …

i enjoyed this article especially, as well as the discussion in the comments below.

John Fordham had a very good June it seems

However John is certainly right about Zhenya Strigalev, whom we here saw in sarf Lunnun last year - nearly as much one might have observed by his unusual stance, straight back, head bent sharply down, as for the compressed complexity emanating from his sharp-toned alto, more Steve Coleman than McLean, one might conclude, as from listening to John's clip there. Once again, jazz-rock more as our freer guys would have tackled it back in the 70s/ early 80s, themewise especially (Dreamtime, anybody?). Genius of an idea combining our own Liam Noble with the American backers on this album, which I must look out for.
