yard art by a hero in distress and with more on offer ...

now these two events will get me to lunnun .....

    tonight 2200 Night Waves

Anne McElvoy discusses the case of the artist Ai Weiwei with Dr Katie Hill of the University of Westminster, the archaeologist Mike Pitts, and the journalist Peter Aspden. Weiwei is currently in prison in China and his work is being shown in his absence in a new exhibition at the Lisson Gallery in London, while his "Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads" have just been unveiled in the courtyard of Somerset House.

[QUOTE=aka Calum Da Jazbo;48789]if there is a band on the planet that can get within reach of these guys i'd love to hear them too ...

"Initially, the repertoire of MOPDtK included both originals by Elliott, Evans and Irabagon, and jazz standards such as "Skippy," "Moanin'" and "A Night in Tunisia." All of Elliott's compositions are always named after towns in Pennsylvania which gives his titles both conceptual distance from the musical material and an amusing back-story."

Will MOPDTK get around to a composition honoring (my home State's) little sleepy town of:

      Intercourse ?

Natch, there would have to be a - what's word - euphenism.

      At least 499 potentials.

yard-birds with adventurous ears might care to hear the fusion of the Pakistani Sufi praise tradition with jazz in the Rez Abassi Quatet's Newport set courtesy of NPR i think it's a gasser, edgy, clearly of two traditions but without a hint of ecm noodling .... and my how NPR puts R3 to shame on Jazz Coverage ....

on the clasical front they, NPR, premier a series of new pieces celebrating and exploring the music of the Brandenburg Concertos commissioned by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra ... a self organising ensemble who work without a conductor .... a principle to inspire us all, wonder what the music is like, not heard it yet but all new compositions ...

More Indo-jazz fusion on the Delhi Jazz Festival site: Trio AAB (Phil and Tom Bancroft and Kevin MacKenzie) in collaboration with various Indian musicians. http://sehernow.in/Jazz2011/gallery.html (scroll to the bottom of the list of bands to find them).

The entire festival's available there so there's plenty of other stuff to explore. No big names, but a good range of acts from India, Europe and Canada.
