Calum: Thank you for that link to 'Techno' Ben (belatedly following on the heels of 'Cowboy' Ben).

The head of NPR recently got caught in a sting operation (calling the Tea Party: 'racist' and other sundry stuff) and Republican Congress voted to cut-off a good chunk of their funding.

    Potentially, not good for jazz.

there are so many cuts of funding over here and no doubt over there Chas .... it is a random process and any excuse will do .... alas the PC Inquisition is never ending, and as dogmatic and rabid as the Spanish ...... once it was faith, now it is terminology, what has the linguistic turn done for us ....

This was "hip" but I was into Coleman Hawkins and Thelonious Monk at the time:-

Never really understoof the (musical) appeal. I think she has an unremarkable voice. Not a great musical instrument, in my opinion.

What was Ronnie's joke, to the effect that hip hops were something people of a certain age should be expected to prepare themselves for?
